Nick Ghobashi and Greg Bethmann have some flicks on their respective sites from our recent Born Ugly/George is Gonna Be a Dad trip to the Blue Ridge region of Virginia and Artisan/Pillar’s newest park in Bedford. It was good times and we ate river lobsters like kings.

Our Maloof DC Article

We got press passes to Maloof in DC! Apparently we are a legitimate media outlet! Nick Ghobashi shot some photos and Chris from Sevenfold wrote the following to me in an email…

“Thanks for giving me the spot on your list, it was a little strange, I had to show the girl the email on my phone and then she got smart with me and asked where my equipment was and I told her I was I writing and would be writing about the way she treated me haha… it was all good after that, the behind the scenes lounge was like a industry high school reunion, I saw so many people I haven’t seen in years. The vending area was a bit creepy/kooky I heard that people in the bleachers were throwing back the active t’s they were handing out. Speaking of the bleachers in the finals we had a crazy college football atmosphere with the Pit Crew heads and Bobby’s homey’s had B-O-B-B-Y letter boards they were holding up, Paul tossing the SPoT guys beer from the bleachers, best contest crowd ever. I posted a few little clips on my and Sevenfolds facebook pages today. I’m glad I went and thanks for making it so I didn’t have to sneak back to the VIP.”

So there, we covered a major contest. I’m glad I couldn’t go because I probably would have hated it but it’s rad that the Maloof’s are making permanent parks that get left for the community after the contest is over… Keep it up Maloof peoples, even us old grouchy fuckers can’t really argue that what you’re doing is rad.

Truckee Skatepark, Truckee California

Gorgeous! That’s what this little town is in the middle of July. During the middle of the winter I would imagine it’s brutal. Truckee is only a couple miles from the Donner Pass so you know it’s got some harsh winters, and some awesome history. The park is pretty small, as in nothing over six or seven feet but the bowl is well spread and super fun to carve through since it’s on the mellow side. It’s right along I-80 and is surrounded by incredible scenery. No pads and free of course. It’s in a larger park with plenty of families so drinking probably isn’t cool unless you keep it very under wraps. Overall, plenty of fun without twelve foot trannies to kill you!

Waldport Skatepark in Waldport Oregon

This park is rad! This is the place where the speed trials took place in the first Beauty and the Beast Tour. It’s got some real mellow stuff for beginners and doesn’t get too gnarly to have fun. The paraboloid thing (over vert wall/fan) was the first of it’s kind and is incredible. When I was here there was not a soul to be seen. It’s surrounded by ever greens and features some of Airspeed’s (the builder) first example of concrete stamping (the faux rock texture). Very worth stopping it if you are traveling the Oregon coast (which should be a life goal for any skateboarder that loves the feeling of riding roundwall).
